By the later Middle Ages, books in England were increasingly produced by professional craftspeople in lively urban centres like the city of Oxford. This talk will explore the Oxford book trade through contemporary manuscripts and records, revealing the involvement of university students, women, and travelling scribes, as well as criminal cases of scribes from illicit beer brewing to attempted murder.

Dr Alison Ray is the Archivist of Lincoln College, Oxford and Academic Engagement Support Officer for the Bodleian Libraries.
